Waddling along

If one takes the time to slow down, you might just find something to put a smile on your face.

Two days in a row – I hurry from work to a movie theatre to watch Brokeback Mountain. Both times, by the time I get there the tickets are sold out. Even single seats are snapped up!

After being rejected at that cinema, each time, I take a walk to a nearby cinema in hopes to catch a movie as I have missed so many. In the span of the walk – its funny little things that tend to catch my attention. Like a couple, leaning against each other just watching the world pass them by; school kids “hanging out”; a tourist taking a picture of a building (I think) and his friend taking a picture of him taking a picture.

The one that really caught my attention? This little girl, walking beside her father, holding his hand on her left and something on her left – on second look I realise there is a (wooden) duck on a stick. She is making it walk by rolling it on the ground. The two webbed feet of the duck merrily roll along with her. The serene calm on her face was mesmerising to say the least.

About my movie watching – both days I catch different shows at the second cinema. On the second day, after the movie I head to the bus stop to catch my bus home. While texting my friend, I do a 180 and rush back to the cinema on a whim that I will get to watch the movie I’ve tried twice in 2 days to catch. Thankfully, I get a seat which is a bit further front then I would like – but I finally get to watch Brokeback!

While walking towards the cinema, I realise that I’m going back into the same cinema hall I had just watched my earlier show.

On the spur of the moment, I’ve created a semi-movie marathon. As a lot of my friends have pointed out – I’m the only one they know that works on a lack of any shape or form of schedule and is so extremely spontaneous that my line of thought can change within a minute. I guess I should start organising things, so that I won’t keep getting myself into situations where I need to “go with the flow” so strongly.

Who is up for taming a wild horse?

Hi-Ho Hi-Ho

I’m sure at one point or another in our lives we have heard the adage - The journey is most important part of the trip – yet mostly people only see the destination.

Today, I took a bus to work; something I had not done in a long time. While waiting for what seemed to be too long a period, I got fidgety and quite annoyed in general; the heavy traffic didn’t help either.

After a while of my fidgets, I started to calm down – I do wonder what started my train of thought. I began to observe people on the bus. There would have been at least 20 – 30 people in my field of vision, yet at most, I saw 2 psuedo-smiles. Those people just did not seem very happy.

I looked out and saw that the sun was shining, the grass had this amazing green and suddenly, my day didn’t feel so bad. I watched people walking on the pavement, people in other cars and the environment around as the bus travelled – until I nearly missed my stop, there was a little pang inside wishing the ride could go on longer. I had forgotten how much I love people-watching; it is such an inane past time, yet one that gives so much fascination, hour after hour.

I got off the bus, with a spring in my step and tho I’m not a morning person, today’s morn was not that bad
